Where can I find a decent coffee maker?

My wife and I are in need of a new coffee maker. so, like most folks, we headed to Wal-mart... then HH Gregg... then Target... then Kohls...

Every coffee maker we can find has this ridiculous, spring-loaded, bulbous valve thing that the coffee drips through. It's a spring, it's metal, and it's exposed to steam. Ever hear of a little thing called RUST? I thought about just removing it (easy to do on the display model at the store) but then the coffee would actually *splash* on the bulbous top of the carafe.

Also don't want one of the single-cup dispenser things - they have the same problems and they collect mold in the valves - don't believe me and have one? Pull off the rubber stop gasket and look at that brown crap...

So, basically, we are looking for a 10-12 cup maker that doesn't have this valve. how about something basic, like the Mr. Coffee things that our parents have? That's what I'm looking for.

I am very particular about coffee. Good news. You can buy a coffee maker that makes your coffee taste every bit as hot and good as the thousand dollar machines. It's called a percolator and only costs about $40-$50..

Chances are, you've heard negative information on percolators from the so-called coffee experts. Try it for yourself before you judge.

Have you considered a manual drip? I have a 1-cup filter cone that's just a piece of plastic to stick on your cup and hold a coffee filter. no springs, no valves, nothing but one piece of dishwasher-safe plastic. The disadvantage is that you have to heat the water yourself, so it might not be practical for so many cups.

Have you considered getting 10 cup Chemex coffee maker? I know that it may not be as convenient to use as an electric coffee maker, but it really is not that much work to use it.

The beauty of Chemex is that the only material that coffee touches is glass and the paper filter - no metal, no plastic, just pure glass. it really makes wonderful coffee.

I'll give you a link for a review of Chemex coffee makers, it you want to read about all the pros and cons:

How about Presto 02811 12-Cup Stainless Steel Coffeemaker.I am old fashioned, to me percolation is the better method than "drip" coffee making. The coffee is great and it is hot and stays hot. no plastic touches the coffee. http://www.keeplookingbusy.com/itemDetai…

When you and your wife go out and buy a cup of coffee and you like it. Find out what coffee machine they use (brand name) then go on line and see what is available. Let your mouse do all the walking.

sorry.I don`t like coffee and don`t know any store for what u are looking.

Dear Chris B,
I can certainly help you in your quest for a Home Coffee Maker that brews coffee like a commercial coffee machine. What you are looking for is a small home coffee maker that has the important features which are required to brew coffee correctly. there are only three features that are important, you need a coffee maker that does the following:

1. Gets up to boiling temperature 212°F, this way by the time the water gets to the coffee grounds it will be between 195°F-198°F which is optimal brewing temperature.
2. Pulsation, this means the coffee maker will spray water in an even manner then stop over and over again, giving the coffee grounds enough time to saturate and dispense.
3. Uses a flat bottom paper filter, this is important because paper filters take out the majority of the bad oils in coffee beans. Why flat bottom and not a cone, the cone filter was designed to save you money. it allows you to grind your coffee beans really fine and use less of them; this causes the coffee to taste unnatural. That’s why a flat bottom round paper filter basket is the best for modern day brewing.

Fortunately, there are two coffee makers that provide such features and only 1 is available on the market at this time. Unfortunately, the coffee maker I am recommending is only an 8 cup coffee maker, but it will be the last you ever buy in my opinion. here is a link to the coffee maker you are looking for: http://www.essentialwonders.com/servlet/the-527/Saeco-Venus-Coffee-Maker%2C/Detail

The spring loaded thing is the "pause to steal a cup of coffee and ruin the flavor of the rest of the pot" thing- it's on most coffee makers now, probably because of stupid people that sued because they didn't know that sticking your hand under hot coffee would hurt...

I know price is a factor for everyone, BUT get a Bunn! It's worth the extra money and they've come way down in price. I've had mine for 4 years- 2-3 pots a day and it's as good as day 1! The coffee is done in 3-5 minutes and the flavor is MUCH better than any other home coffee maker that I've had. Target.com has them, they may be available at your local store. http://www.target.com/gp/search/189-6662…
