The Ultimate Vastu Guide For Your Pooja Room
In the ancient days, there was always a separate place outside the home for the family deity. However, with the onset of nuclear families, more and more homes now have a Pooja room inside. Whether you are constructing your home, building just the Pooja room or renovating your home to accommodate one, it is imperative that you keep in mind these Vastu tips.
It is best that your Pooja room is located in the North-East corner of your home since this is the corner ruled by the Gods. Placing your Pooja room in this corner of the house will ensure you prosper with health, wealth, happiness and peace of mind. Another important aspect to keep in mind is that there should not be a kitchen or a toilet adjacent to or directly above or below the Pooja room. A number of houses place the Pooja room under a staircase for lack of space, this is undesirable as well. Make sure your Pooja room is planned on the ground floor and never in the basement.
Though they look magnificient, your Pooja room must not have heavy idols and nor should their faces be covered. You could opt for light weight idols or even pictures of idols and make sure garlands or flowers do not cover the faces of idols. A pretty and practical lamp in a plate or Thalam can be placed facing the idols. However, the lamp should not be placed on an elevated platform.
When deciding on the roof of the Pooja room, Vastu recommends a false ceiling. The flooring can be light yellow or white colored marble. The walls should also be light yellow, white or light blue in color. Double leaved doors placed in the middle are recommended too; you can find these in beautiful decorative patterns that are aesthetically soothing as well.
Make sure all cupboards and other items in the room are lower than the idols. A soothing, non-cluttered area is what serves the purpose of a Pooja room. This is a place where you can meditate, gain peace and quiet, pray to your deity and have traditional family Poojas. But above all, this is a place where you must feel one with God and when built according to Vastu compliance, the Pooja room will surely bring positive energy into your household.
