Vietnamese cuisine is well loved around the world and Vietnamese restaurants are popping up in many Western and European cities. To experience the true exotic yet light taste of Vietnamese cooking, you should take a trip to this unique country and sample dishes that are authentically made. You would experience a gastronomical delight. Vietnamese cooks utilize fresh foods in their dishes and use little oil or fats which makes their cuisine one of the healthiest food choices you can make.

Rice is grown abundantly in Vietnam and forms the basis of many meals. Usual Vietnamese meal would include a rice and meat dish or a rice and vegetable dish. When served traditionally, each person has a bowl of rice and the main dish is shared. Vietnamese cuisine is often compared to Chinese food and they are similar, yet different from each other. Vietnamese food is much lighter than Chinese and relies heavily on fish sauce for seasoning.

Other common seasonings used in Vietnamese cooking include ginger, lemongrass, curry powder, onions, garlic, vinegar, and sugar. Fresh herbs such as basil, cilantro, mint, coriander, and fennel are also used. Cooks aim to create meals that have the perfect balance of spicy, salty, sour, sweet, and bitter. Much Vietnamese cuisine is vegetarian but you will also find all kinds of seafood specialties as well as dishes made with pork, beef, and chicken.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
can leaving a t disc in my tassimo machine break it?
If i leave a tassimo beverage disc in the machine, can it damage the machine?

    • ANSWER:
Leaving the disk in the machine cannot permanently damage it (unless you try to force another fresh disk on top of the old one), BUT... if you leave disks in, the coffee grounds can eventually clog up the water feed tube that punches into the disk.

We had that problem with another brand of disk-type coffee maker. If it happens, you need to take a safety pin or toothpick to clean out the feeder tube.

  2. QUESTION:
Have you purchased or used the Tassimo Hot Beverage System?
I don't ever make a whole pot of coffee and thought this beverage system might work better for me. I like coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. It makes one cup at a time so it might not be as wasteful. I wanted to make sure the products (discs) were good though before spending over 0 on it.

    • ANSWER:
I'd never use a pod system. But, then again, I roast my own, and brew a 10 ounce cup through a gold mesh filter in a Braun 4-cup coffeemaker. Or in a French press when I'm with the redhead.

  3. QUESTION:
Has anyone used the Braun Tassimo hot beverage machine?
I found this machine last night, and it looks like the best thing since sliced bread. The cheapest I have found it new is 9.99, and the t discs can be bought in bulk on ebay for fairly cheap. What did you like or dislike about it? Any recommendations?

    • ANSWER:
Its ok, but it does seem like a lot of hassle for a cappacino.

You also have to make sure the little window through which it reads the barcodes on the t discs is clean otherwise it deosnt work.

Good talking point for the kitchen though!!

  5. QUESTION:
What three mini-desserts can I offer together? And what hot drink can I serve with it?
I just bought a Tassimo hot beverage maker. You know, the machine that makes - deep breath - American coffee, Cappuccino, Twinings English tea, Suchard Hot chocolate, Carte Noire Crema Intenso, Latte Machiato, and a good-old-fashioned espresso.

Anyway... I want to try making a selection of different mini-desserts for different drinks. Say, three flavours for each drink.
(I've got a lota time on my hands, and a lota friends who want to try the machine)

So, what I've got as the perfect accompanying flavours are:

    1)
Lemon cake, vanilla ice and chopped fresh mango,
    ...to go with the tea.

    2)
Brownie, pot of hot fudge, fresh half-strawberries,
... to go with an espresso.

    And....

...after that, I'm running out of ideas.

So, anyone want to shove in their perfect trinity of desserts and prefered hot drink for a perfect gourmet moment?

Best wishes, thanks and two points to each person who answers
