You raise some good points, and I'm certainly that many, if they found themselves in the same situation, would feel at least a good deal of awkwardness about it.
But, I'm going to assume that the bulk of us who post here are not public figures. we haven't spent the bulk of our adult lives as politicians, performers, or pundits. we don't make a living by writing and passing bills that effect the general public. we also don't collect a paycheck from a news network for voicing our opinions. if our circumstance change and we choose to step into those spotlights we're not going to have as much room to complain if we find the Fresnels too bright.
Of course, there is an option if we discover the attention we've craved has become a bit too much. we can quit. Palin, as we all know, did pull a famous quitting for reasons that included the media attention and the privacy concerns for her family. and then she released a book with her name on it (we can't really say she wrote it), went on tour, started speaking for a hefty per event fee (as he daughter is now doing as well--something she clearly would not be doing were it not for her mother's fame), and signed on as on air talent for Fox. she made the decision to put herself back in the spotlight. she doesn't get to blame anyone for paying attention. if she's not happy about it, hey, well once again, she can quit.
McGinniss has been remarkably open about this. he didn't hide his identity. he didn't mask his intentions. It's also worth mentioning that he didn't hire someone to live in the house on his behalf, pulling a variation on the ambush interview stunts that Jesse Watters does for The O'Reilly Factor.
I'll say again, if he goes out of bounds she can call foul. Right now, however, she's actually calling more attention to herself by making her ridiculous, "how do I know he's not some kind of pervert?" claim. oh Sarah, you're the one who posted a picture of his place on your Facebook page? How does he know you've not focusing your cameras on his windows at night? How does he know that Todd's not going through his garbage? You're a former governor who had a handful of ethics complaints filed against you. Doesn't that give him reason to be concerned about you?
Of course not. so, go over. Shake his hand. Offer to take him on a helicopter wolf hunt. Anything at all. Just quit your whining.
