Going green
Quiznos at 1027 Folly Road on James Island not only has a new look with brighter colors, but also is incorporating environmentally friendly aspects to the store.
The company's new "Eat Toasty, be Green" initiative features pulp salad bowls made from renewable sugarcane, plastic lids made of 30 percent post-consumer-recycled PET bottles, napkins made from 100 percent recycled materials and fiber, catering lunch boxes made from 100 percent recycled paperboard and new to-go brown paper bags that replace grocery-store-style plastic bags.
Quiznos also is replacing uniforms with new hats, shirts and aprons made from 100 percent recycled soda bottles. each hat saves about six bottles from reaching a landfill, and each apron keeps about 25 bottles out of the waste stream.
On Wednesday, the first 1,000 Quiznos customers will receive a free eco-friendly, reusable Quiznos bag. Bring the bag back on following visits for to-go orders and get a free medium drink with a sub, entree salad or "choose two" purchase. The James Island shop is owned by Jeremy Tunstill of James Island.
